Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Wynd Tallies OT Game Winner to Down William Jewell 1-0

St. Louis - Sophomore Henry Wynd chose a perfect time to score his first career goal as he followed up on a rebound and tapped in the game-winning score to push the Maryville men's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime win over visiting William Jewell. Wynd tallied six minutes and 30 seconds into the extra session for the thrilling win.

In the first half, William Jewell took six shots, and Maryville goalie Eddie Starr denied the visitors with five saves as the game was scoreless after 45 minutes. The Saints picked up their offensive attack and were the ones who registered six shots in the second half. WJC goalie Shane Van Hooser came up with five stops as the game moved into overtime.

Nick Doherty nearly ended the game in the fourth minute of OT but his shot trickled just to the left of the William Jewell net. The Saints earned a corner kick and kept the ball in the WJC end of the field. Bogi Atanasov started the game-winning sequence with a shot from the middle of the penalty area. Van Hooser blocked the shot but the ball bounced to Wynd. The sophomore collected the rebound and tapped the ball into the right side of the WJC (1-4-2 overall, 1-2-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) net for the winner.

The win stakes the Saints to a 3-2-3 mark, 2-2-1 in the GLVC. Maryville is back in action Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. as it hosts Rockhurst.
