Maddie Timmermann pounded down a season-high 14 kills while hitting .542 to pace the Maryville volleyball squad to a 3-1 victory over Quincy Friday night in Moloney Arena. The Saints won the Great Lakes Valley Conference match up 21-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-16.

The Saints held a 17-15 lead in the first set but QU scored three straight points to take the lead. The Saints tied the set at 20-20 before the Hawks tallied five of the last six points. The Saints roared out of the gates in set two as they scored the first four points and seven of the first eight to take a lead they wouldn't give up. Up 8-3,
Laura Welling had a kill that started a 5-0 burst capped by a QU hitting error. The Saints did not allow the lead to drop lower than seven as they hit .316 to even the match.

Set three featured eight ties and three lead changes as both teams made runs to try and jump ahead in the match. The Saints were down 6-2 before forging an 8-8 tie on an
Abby Luebbers ace. Neither team led by more than two points as the set was still tied 18-18. Timmermann had a kill, and
Hana Michael followed with her own for a 20-18 Maryville advantage. The Saints were still leading 20-22 until
Ashley Selman and a QU hitting error pushed the Saints to set point. QU saved one but Michael ended the set with a kill for a 25-21 decision.

The Saints were down 11-7 before going on one of their longest runs of the season. Maryville ripped off 11 straight points to take charge of the match. Two consecutive Quincy hitting errors started the burst, and Michel added back-to-back kills to continue the Saints run. After a Selman termination, another QU error handed the Saints an 18-11 lead. Maryville closed the match with kills by
Jordan McKinley and Michael.

Michael completed a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs while hitting .333 on the day. Selman had 11 kills and added two blocks.
Ali Lampen posted 31 digs to top the Saints defense. Maryville hit .302 for the match to key the victory. The Hawks fall to 2-10 overall, 0-5 in the GLVC, while the Saints improve to 6-5 overall, 2-3 in the league. Maryville is back in action Saturday as it hosts Truman State for a 3 p.m. match.
