Jordynn Martin both scored 16 points apiece as the Maryville defensive effort held the University of Missouri-St. Louis to just a 31.1 percent shooting outing as the Saints beat their city-rivals 57-48 Monday at Moloney Arena. The Saints ended the game on a 19-3 run to rally by the Tritons.

The Saints scored 14 of the game's first 16 points to grab the early lead. Martin drilled a 3-pointer before UMSL scored a bucket. Maryville responded with 11 straight to take control early. Miller followed with a 3-pointer, and Marvin scored on a layup. Miller knocked down two free throws. After
Alex Hillyer scored in close, Miller's driving layup was good for a 14-2 lead. The Tritons offense finally got on track and cut into Maryville's lead. The Tritons eventually took a 24-23 lead until
Carly Frala hit a jumper at the buzzer for a 25-24 halftime time lead.

The Saints held a narrow 30-29 lead before the Tritons went on an 11-2 run to grab their largest lead of the game at 40-32. Maryville was still down 45-38 with 9:40 to play before staging a run. Hillyer splashed in a 3-pointer, and Frala hit two free throws. Miller's layup tied the game, and Martin sank two free throws to push the Saints ahead 47-45 with 5:45 remaining. The Saints were clinging to a 49-48 lead with 4:15 to play but shut out the Tritons the rest of the way. The Maryville defense caused UMSL to miss its final seven shots of the game.

Along with her 16 points, Miller grabbed seven rebounds, had four assists and three steals. The senior is now just 12 points away from breaking the school record for career points of 1,463 set by Abby Duethman. Martin sank all four of her free throws to finish with 16 points. Hillyer added 11 points, while
Jade Rogers led the team with eight rebounds. Kelly Kunkel led the Tritons (7-8 overall, 3-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) with 12 points.

The Saints improve to 10-6 overall, 4-3 in the league. Maryville hosts Drury, which was ranked No. 14 in last week's polls, Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
