Maryville rallied from a 13-point deficit midway through the second half to force overtime, but fell just short in the extra stanza as William Jewell defeated the Saints 88-85 at The Mabee Center in Liberty, Mo.

The Saints fell behind from the onset as William Jewell grabbed control of the contest early by a score of 10-2 with 16:32 remaining in the half. The Cardinals would continue to stretch the lead out by hitting eight long range jumpers in the first half to stretch the lead to 43-31 with just over two minutes remaining in the half. Maryville would close out the half with a 9-2 run to cut the Cardinal advantage to 45-40 at the half.Â
Jordynn Martin would power the late run with four points.

The Saints would keep pace with William Jewell early in the second half, but the Cardinals would extend the lead with an 18-10 run to give them a 63-50 advantage with 11:08 remaining in regulation. From that point, Maryville's defense helped power the Saints to a 22-9 run to end the half and force overtime. The Saints had chance to win the game in regulation after a
Carly Frala steal, but a
Shelby Miller shot from the right baseline missed it's mark.

In the extra period, the teams would swap baskets early before
Kate Finn hit a triple from the left wing to give the Cardinals the lead for good with 2:05 remaining. Maryville had one more chance to tie, but Martin's three-pointer bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Maryville (11-8, 5-5 GLVC) got a career night from
Jade Rogers as she scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the loss. Miller added 13 markers while Frala and Martin both finished the night with 12 points.

William Jewel (11-7, 6-4 GLVC) was led by Christian Benton-Keys with 26 points in the affair.
Aerial Smith scored 16 markers while
Meagan Paul and Finn each added 12 points in the win.

Maryville returns to action this Saturday in Downtown Kansas City with a date against Rockhurst. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m.
