Maryville was on the receiving end of two things that will always win games, clutch shooting and a great rebounding effort, as the Saints defeated Rockhurst, 75-67 at the Mason-Halpin Field House Saturday afternoon.

Maryville started on the right foot as Shelby Miller nailed her first two shots of the day from beyond the arc to give the Saints an early 6-2 lead just ninety seconds into the contest. From that point on in the first half, the game would shift back and forth as the Saints went to the locker room leading 31-30. There were four ties and eight lead changes in a closely contested half.

The second half would begin as the first half ended with both clubs continuing to keep the game close. Maryville was able to grab a 44-38 on a Jade Rogers triple from the top of the key with 16:17 remaining in the game. The Hawks would come right back as Mary Dineen scored the last five points in a 7-0 run over the next minute and 17 seconds to give Rockhurst a 45-44 advantage. That would be the last time that time the Hawks would lead as Miller nailed another three ball to give Maryville the edge at 47-45 with 14:45 to play. After Rockhurst tied the game at 47-47 on a Dineen lay-up, Ali Ringering would hit a three from the right wing to put the Saints ahead for good. Maryville also was able to use the foul line as an advantage as the Saints were 14-of-18 from the charity stripe in the second half.

Miller paced the 3-point shooting by going 6-of-10 from long range in the game and finished with 20 points. Miller also became Maryville's all-time leading shooter from beyond the arc as she now has made 233 3-point shots made in her career to surpass the previous record of 231 set by Heather Toma. Rogers recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Rita Flynn added her third career double-double with 11 markers and 10 caroms. This was the second time this season that the Saints had two players record a double-double in the same game. Ringering added 10 points for the Saints who improved to 12-8 on the season and 6-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Saints out-rebounded the Hawks 50-37 while hitting 10 shots from beyond the arc.

Rockhurst (8-11, 2-9 GLVC) was lead by Dineen with a career-high 34 points while Lauren Meyers chipped in with 12 points in the defeat.

Maryville heads back on the road Thursday, Feb. 5, as the Saints travel east to take on St. Joseph College in a 5:30 p.m. start.
