Maryville bounced back from one of their worst shooting nights of the season to claim an 89-75 victory over the University of Indianapolis on Saturday at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis. Indiana-native Shelby Miller poured in a season-high 29 points to pace the Maryville attack.
The Saints were able to shake off their poor shooting night against Saint Joseph's, in which Maryville shot a season-low 27 percent, by drilling four 3-pointers in the first six minutes of the contest. Miller and Jordynn Martin each connected on two long-range jumpers as the Saints and Greyhounds played on even terms in the early portion of the game. Maryville would shift the focus of the offensive attack to the inside as Rita Flynn would hit back-to-back buckets to start a 12-0 run and give the Saints a 28-19 lead at the 8:48 mark of the first half. UIndy would turn the tables on the Saints and go on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 30-30 with 5:37 remaining. Miller answered with a jumper that would put the Saints out in front for good. Maryville would finish the half shooting 16-of-32 (50 percent) as they built a 41-35 advantage at the break.Â
Maryville's good fortune from the field would continue in the second half as the Saints would put the game out of reach with a 18-4 run over a 6 minute 19 second span to take a 64-46 lead with 10:29 remaining in the game.
Miller in addition to her season-high output, she also grabbed seven rebounds to pace Maryville (13-9, 7-6 GLVC). Martin added 15 markers while Alex Hillyer and Carly Frala posted 12 and 11 points, respectively. Jade Rogers continued to own the boards as she grabbed a game-high eight caroms. The Saints finished the game shooting 29-of-60 (48 percent) from the field while out rebounding the Greyhounds 40-32.
UIndy (9-12, 6-7 GLVC) placed three players in double figures as Princess German tied her season high with 28 points. Kelly Walter added 16 points while Sarah Costello would chip in with 12 points.
Maryville returns home to the Simon Center Thursday, Feb. 12, for a key conference match-up with Bellarmine at 5:30 pm.
