Rockhurst boxscore in PDF
Maryville could not over come a cold-shooting start and a run by Rockhurst at the end of the game as the Hawks defeated the Saints 86-75 at Mason-Halpin Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Maryville struggled from the field at the beginning of the game as Rockhurst raced out to a 20-8 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The Saints would whittle the lead down to five points on two occasions with Armon Provo hitting a mid-range jumper with 9:59 left in half to cut the Hawk lead to 23-18, but Rockhurst would answer with 12-2 run over the next 4 minutes and 28 seconds to take a 35-20 lead with 5:41 remaining. The Hawks eventually took a 48-38 lead into the halftime.
Maryville would come out in the second half and out-score Rockhurst by eight points to cut the Hawk lead down to 58-56 with 12:45 remaining. Provo provided the scoring spark with eight points during the stretch. Rockhurst would then again answer with a 14-2 run to take a 72-58 lead with under eight minutes left in the game and would never look back.
Maryville (10-10, 5-6 GLVC) was led in scoring by Provo, who ended the day with a game-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Trae Pemberton chipped in with 15 markers on the afternoon to bring his career point total to 999. Forrester Sims and Max Mischkulnig added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Dominique Washington paced the Hawks (6-13, 2-9 GLVC) with 17 points while Adam Fatkin and Josh Roberts each added 11 markers.
Maryville returns to action this coming Thursday, Feb. 5, as the Saints head to Indiana to take on Saint Joseph's College at 7:30 p.m.
