Maryville put a scare into the ninth-ranked team in the country midway through the first half, but could not maintain the pace as the Saints would fall to Indianapolis 77-50 at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis.
It would be a rocky start for the Saints as the Greyhounds would start the contest by scoring the first nine points over the first two minutes, but Maryville would settle in and outscore UIndy 18-8 over the next 8:24 to take their only lead of the day at 18-17 lead on a Jeff Leeson triple from the right corner. Eric Davidson would come off the bench for the Greyhounds and hit a 3-pointer to give the home team a 26-20 advantage only to see Armon Provo drill back-to-back triples to draw the contest even 2:35 remaining. UIndy would then ride the shooting stroke of Davidson as he would hit a pair of three's as the Greyhounds would outscore Maryville 12-3 and take a 38-29 advantage into the halftime locker room.
The second half would see the Saints offense struggle to get on track. After Provo hit a three from the left wing to cut the UIndy lead to six points, The Greyhounds would take advantage of numerous Saint turnovers to string together a pair of runs to put the game out of reach. UIndy converted twenty-two Maryville turnovers into 31 points on the day.
Provo paced the Saints with 14 points while Max Mischkulnig added 12 markers and Forrester Sims dished out a season-high five assists in the defeat that dropped Maryville to 10-12 on the season and 5-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Joe Lawson, who pumped in 20 points while also grabbing eight rebounds, led the Greyhounds. Davidson and Brennan McElroy added 12 points each as UIndy improved to 19-2 on the season and 11-2 in GLVC play.
Maryville returns to action on this Thursday, Feb. 12, in a key conference match-up against Bellarmine. Tip-off time is slated for 7:30 pm.
