The Maryville women's basketball team could not recover from a cold shooting night as the Saints fell to University of Wisconsin-Parkside 92-62 on the road Thursday night. The loss ended Maryville's six-game winning streak, the longest since joining Division II in 2009-10.
The Saints (8-4 overall, 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference ) raced out to an early 7-3 lead but the Rangers would answer by scoring the next nineteen points over a stretch of the next five minutes and 43 seconds to take a 22-7 lead with 11:45 remaining in the first half. Maryville would cut the UW-Parkside lead to 37-32 on a Alex Hillyer 3-pointer from the right wing, but the Saints could not get any closer.
Senior guard Shelby Miller led the way for the Saints with 19 points on the night while Hillyer added 13 markers, and Jade Rogers chipped in with 12 points in the loss. Rogers continued her strong play on the boards in leading Maryville with eight rebounds.
The Rangers (9-4, 2-2) were paced by Gaby Bronson with a game-high 27 points on the night, including a 10-11 performance from the foul line, while grabbing a team-high six rebounds.Â
The Saints return to action this coming Saturday afternoon as they travel to Romeoville, Ill., to take on No. 2 Lewis at 1 p.m.
