Taryn Trubich narrowly missed a triple-double, and four Maryville players recorded double-digit kills as the Saints defeated Oakland City 3-1. The Saints won the non-conference tilt by set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23.
The Saints were aiming for the sweep after taking the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores. However, OCU jumped out to a big early led in set three to extend the match. Maryville was down 8-5 but charged back into the contest with seven straight points.
Ashley Selman started the run with a kill, and the Saints had two blocks to fuel the run.
After taking a 12-8 lead, the Saints kept the margin at four points and were still up 18-14 before Oakland City made a final charge. The Lady Oaks tied the set at 19-19 and even took a 22-21 lead.
Hana Michael and
Maddie Timmermann recorded consecutive kills to put the Saints on top 23-22. After OCU tied the set,
Laura Welling had a point, and Timmermann's kill closed out the match.
Trubich finished with 22 assists, 12 digs and eight kills to lead the Maryville efforts. Selman finished with 12 kills and four blocks, while Welling also recording 12 kills. Timmermann terminated 11 times while committing just one error for a .312 hitting percentage and also served up three aces. Michael recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs.
Ali Lampen notched 27 digs and also had three service aces. The Saints attack downed a tremendous defensive effort by the Lady Oaks who recorded 107 digs, the most by a Maryville opponent this season.
The Saints improve their overall record to 6-7, while Oakland City dips to 4-6. Maryville returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday as they play at Missouri S&T.
