The Maryville men's soccer team was looking to earn a split of its trip to the west side of the state but William Jewell scored a goal in the later stage of the first half and make it stand to hand the Saints a 1-0 defeat in Liberty, Mo.

The Saints only managed to generate eight total shots and only one found the target. The Cardinals had two early chances but
Christian Kjaersgaard came up with two saves to keep the game scoreless.
Karlo Jingura had the best Maryville chance in the first half but his attempt was turned aside by WJC keeper Joe Keeven.
Zach Klipsch had a header sail high for Maryville's next good scoring opportunity. However, Hunter Short scored in the 36th minute from inside the six-yard box for what would wind up as the only tally of the game.

Early in the second half, the Saints had two chances misfire, while Kjaersgaard posted a save to keep the deficit at just one. The Saints had two corner kicks and two attempts in the final 15 minutes but none lead to a clear scoring opportunity as the Cardinals held on for the victory.

The Saints see their record drop to 5-7-1 overall, 3-6-1 in the GLVC. The Cardinals improve to 3-8-2 and are 2-7-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Maryville plays stays on the road for its next two matches.
