Women's Soccer Downs Southern Indiana 2-1 as Abu-Douleh Scores Winner

The Maryville women's soccer team scored two first-half goals and held Southern Indiana at bay in the second half to post a key 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory. The game was played at the Lou Fusz Soccer Fields in Maryland Heights, Mo.

Midway through the first half, Allison Verville put a thru ball to Hana McGinis. The senior ran onto the pass and fired in a shot in the 24th minute to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. The Saints nearly doubled their lead later when Katy Rood rang an attempt off the right post. Maryville did break through just prior to halftime. After a scramble, Kaley Ruff pushed a pass forward to Nadia Abu-Douleh. She gathered herself and rifled in a shot from about 35-yards away into the upper right corner for her first career goal. Abu-Douleh's goal adds to her point total which includes eight assists this season.

In the second half, with the wind at their backs, the Screaming Eagles attempted a comeback. USI also had a shot hit the post but pulled one score back in the 56th minute. Gabriella Korte hit a long pass up the middle to McKinsey Durham who scored on the breakaway to cut the Maryville advantage in half. The Saints defense did not allow USI to pull level as Bailey Doerflinger made two more saves in the second half to seal the win.

The Saints improve to 6-6-3 overall, 5-5-3 in the GLVC. Both marks tie the school record for overall wins and conference wins since moving to Division II. The Screaming Eagles tumble to 4-9-2 overall, 3-9-1 in the league. The Saints will have their Senior Day Sunday as they host Bellarmine at Noon.
