Sam Scoles and
Nate Alonzo both scored and the Maryville defense kept Bellarmine at bay to post a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon on Senior Day. The Saints are unbeaten in their last four games and have recorded two wins and two ties. Maryville extends its best NCAA Division II campaign and improves to 7-7-3 overall, 5-6-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

In the first half,
Zach Klipsch was battling in front of the BU net and was fouled as the Saints earned a penalty kick. Scoles stepped up to the spot and buried a hard shot into the upper right to give the Saints a 1-0 edge in the 19th minute of play. The Knights nearly tied in on their next chance but Saints goalie
Christian Kjaersgaard covered the shot for a save.

The Saints carried the play early in the second half and their efforts were rewarded in the 54th minute.
Luke Gilsinger had a shot from the middle of the field that was saved but the ball bounced out to the right side. Alonzo pounced on the rebound outside the penalty area and deftly flighted the ball over the scrambling Bellarmine defense and into the net for a 2-0 lead. Bellarmine cut into the Saints lead when Nathan Jones collected a cross and lofted in his own shot from outside for a 2-1 Maryville edge at the hour mark. The Knights nearly drew level when they had one shot hit the crossbar, and Kjaersgaard was forced into a sprawling save on another attempt. The Saints nearly iced the game with two breakaway chances but BU keeper Tommy Hebert made two kick saves to deny Maryville. The Knights (10-7 overall, 8-6 GLVC) did not have another chance in the final minutes as the Saints held on for the win.
