Bolstered by a stunning comeback in set one, the Maryville volleyball team swept Illinois Springfield Friday night by set scores of 27-25, 25-11, 25-17.

The visiting Prairie Stars jumped out of the gates to a 10-1 lead before the Saints stormed back. Maryville still trailed 15-5 before a kill by
Laura Welling and a UIS error started the Saints rally. After the Prairie Stars had a kill,
Ashley Selman and
Taryn Trubich notched kills and another UIS miscue pulled the Saints to 16-10.
Ali Lampen served two aces during a 4-0 run. Down 20-18, Trubich tipped in a kill, and a Selman kill finally tied the set at 20-20. The Prairie Stars had another hitting error as the Saints finally took a 21-20 lead. Maryville had set point at 24-22 but UIS scored three straight for its own set point. Selman tied the set, and another Lampen ace handed the Saints another set point. A final UIS hitting error gave the Saints a sparkling 27-25 win.

The Saints scored the first three points of set two and were up 5-3 before taking control with five straight points.
Hana Michael had a kill before Welling terminated on three of the next four points. After UIS scored on a block, Maryville continued its strong play with a 4-0 burst.
Maddie Timmermann bookend the run with kills for a 14-4 lead. The Saints stretched the lead to as much as 14 and held on for the 25-11 win after hitting .341 in the set.

Maryville led set three 10-7 before scoring four of the next five points to ease to a 14-8 cushion. Still up 15-10, the Saints reeled off a 3-0 burst.
Zoe Zeiter had a kill, Welling added another and a UIS error was good for an 18-10 edge. The Prairie Stars made one rally and cut the gap to 22-17 before the Saints closed out the match with the last three points with Timmermann and Michael combining on the match-ending block.

Welling topped the Saints with 11 kills, while Timmermann hit .429 en route to nine kills and three blocks. Selman also finished with nine kills and hit .471. Trubich had a tremendous all-around match as she chipped in 33 assists, five kills, eight digs and four service aces. Lampen recorded 19 digs and served three aces.

The Saints improve to 11-14 overall, 3-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Illinois Springfield is now 5-20 overall, 2-10 in the league. Maryville hosts McKendree Saturday at 3 p.m.
