Beginning a three-match homestand to close the season, the Maryville volleyball team hosted crosstown-rival University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Saints were looking to top the visitors from the North side after winning set one but the Tritons rallied to win in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18.

The Saints were down 9-6 but scored four straight to surge ahead 10-9. The set was tied at 13-all before Maryville scored three straight and stayed ahead.
Maddie Timmermann had a kill, and
Hana Michael served an ace.
Taryn Trubich tipped in a kill for a 13-10 lead. The Saints still led 18-15 before taking control with a 3-0 run.
Laura Welling had a block and joined with
Ashley Selman for a block. Two straight UMSL hitting errors handed the Saints a 22-15, and they eventually closed out the set.

UMSL scored the first five points of set two before the Saints answered with four consecutive scores. Maryville finally tied the set at 9-9 but the Tritons tallied two in a row to inch back ahead. The Saints trailed 19-14 and got as close as one point on two occasions but UMSL held on to tie the match.

The Saints stretched a 12-10 lead to five as Trubich had a kill, and after an UMSL error, Timmermann and Welling teamed up for a block and a 15-10 edge. The Saints still led 19-14 but the Tritons scored seven of the next nine points to tie the set at 21-21. UMSL took the four of the last five points to win set three.

The Saints took a 5-4 lead in the fourth but the Tritons scored six straight to grab the lead. Maryville was still only down 13-9 after a Michael kill until UMSL reeled off five consecutive points to close out the match.

Timmermann topped the Saints with 15 kills while hitting .481 to go along with five blocks. Michael finished with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Selman recorded 11 kills on a .346 hitting mark. Trubich came close to a triple-double as she recorded 39 assists, 10 digs and eight kills. Lampen finished the match with 26 digs and is two away from 2,000 in her career.

The Saints fall to 12-17 overall, 4-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Tritons level their mark at 15-15, 8-8 in the conference. Maryville next plays Friday, Nov. 13, as the Saints host Drury in a 7 p.m. match.
