Hillyer and Wolf Record Double-Doubles as Saints Stay Unbeaten

Alex Hillyer and Alex Wolf both recorded double-doubles as the Maryville women's basketball team downed visiting LeMoyne-Owen 77-68 Tuesday night at Moloney Arena. Hillyer had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Wolf finished with 12 points and 11 boards. Carly Frala poured in a career-high 21 points to pace the offense.
 
The Saints scored the first four points of the game and led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. Maryville used a 10-2 run early in the second to grab its first double-digit advantage at 28-17 at the 5:48 mark. Hillyer started the run with a 3-pointer, and Frala knocked down a triple for a 24-15 advantage. LeMoyne-Owen scored on a layup, but Hillyer hit a jumper, and a Jordynn Martin basket led to the 11-point lead. The Magicians hit two free throws before the Saints used another 7-0 burst. Martin scored on a layup, and after another Frala triple, Ellen Foster hit a jumper for a 35-19 lead. LOC used a late burst to cut the Saints advantage down to 37-28 at halftime.
 
Maryville took control by opening the third quarter with 13 straight points. Ali Ringering scored to start the run, and Frala hit a jumper. Wolf had an offensive rebound that led to a putback basket, and Ringering drilled a trey. Frala's 3-pointer was good for a 49-28 lead midway through the third. The Saints pushed the edge to as much as 60-34 before the Magicians again made a late push to get to 62-44.
 
The Saints offense slowed down in the fourth quarter as the Magicians made a run and eventually cut the deficit to single digits. Maryville hit four free throws over the last two minutes to close out the contest.
 
Frala hit five 3-pointers and added six assists and three steals to the attack. Nine of Wolf's 11 rebounds came on the offensive end as she recorded her second career double-double. Hillyer notched the third double-double of her career and added two blocks shots. Martin reached double figures with 11 points and handed out six assists. Maraja Johnson topped LeMoyne-Owen (1-3) with 20 points.
 
The Saints improve to 3-0 and are next in action Friday when they play in a tournament in Springfield, Mo., hosted by Drury University.
