Rodriguez Chosen National Wrestler of the Week by D2Wrestle.com

Capping off a week of awards, Maryville University junior Nate Rodriguez Neosho, Mo. / Neosho) was selected the National Wrestler of the Week by the website D2wrestle.com. Earlier this week, he was chosen the D2wrestle.com Regional Wrestler of the Week for Super Region Three as well as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Wrestler of the Week. He is the first Maryville wrestler to pick up the national award this season.

Rodriguez, who is ranked second nationally at 141 pounds in the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll, went 5-0 with a two falls and won the tournament championship in the Gold Division at the Joe Parisi Open Saturday hosted by Lindenwood.

Rodriguez started his day with a fall in just 30 seconds over Andrew Frey of Indianapolis. He backed that effort up with another pin against James Lohman of Bethany. In the quarterfinals, Rodriguez defeated West Virginia's Anthony DeAngelo 5-1. In the semifinals, he beat Will Roark from Missouri 10-4. In the championship match, Rodriguez beat Missouri's LeRoy Barnes 9-5. Rodriguez remains undefeated at 9-0 on the year and has recorded four falls.

Rodriguez and the Saints are next in action Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Wisconsin Open in Kenosha, Wis., hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
