The Maryville women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak to open the season come to an end as Concordia-St. Paul rallied for a 76-72 victory over the Saints Saturday at the Drury Thanksgiving Classic. The loss spoiled a career-high 21-point effort by Ali Ringering, who was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Saints started quickly by scoring the first seven points of the contest. Jordynn Martin scored a layup to open the game before Alex Hillyer hit a jumper. Alex Wolf knocked down a 3-pointer for a 7-0 lead. After Concordia cut the gap to 7-5, the Saints responded with nine straight points. Hillyer started the run with a bucket, and Martin scored on two straight trips. Ringering closed the burst with a three-point play for a 16-5 lead. The Saints led 16-10 at the end of the quarter.

Still up 18-12 early in the second, Martin and Wolf converted layups as the Saints rebuilt a double-digit lead at 22-12. Wolf sank two free throws to give Maryville a 31-20 edge with 3:23 left in the half before Concordia cut the gap to 38-33 at intermission.

Midway through the third quarter, Martin converted two free throws for a 42-39 lead but Concordia scored two straight baskets to grab the first lead at 43-42. Ringering made two at the line to give the Saints a 49-48 lead with 1:19 left in the quarter but Concordia scored the final five points.

Hillyer's hoop early in the fourth pulled the Saints to 53-51 until Concordia went on a quick 7-0 run. The Saints stayed close after a triple by Martin and a jumper in the lane by Hillyer pulled Maryville to 60-56 with 5:54 to play. Concordia pushed its advantage back to 68-59 before the Saints made one more push. After two free throws by Ringering, Stephanie Sherwood scored. CSP answered with a basket, and Ringering drained a 3-pointer as the Saints got as close as 70-66 with 1:18 remaining. The Saints got as close as four three times but were never able to draw even.

Ringering hit 12-of-13 free throws en route to her career-best 21 points. Martin added 13 points to the attack. Wolf had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Hillyer also notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

The Saints, who opened 4-0 for the first time since the 2003-04 season, suffered their first loss to fall to 4-1. Concordia improved to 4-2 on the year as Mishayla Jones led the way with 16 points. Maryville opens Great Lakes Valley Conference play Thursday, Dec. 3, at Missouri S&T.
