Stephanie Sherwood nailed six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 24 points to lead the Maryville women's basketball team to a 74-64 victory at Missouri S&T Thursday evening. The contest was the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both squads.

The Saints scored the game's first five points all at the free-throw line to take a lead. However, the Lady Miners answered with eight straight points.
Ali Ringering sank a 3-pointer to tie the game to spark a 10-0 Maryville run.
Alex Hillyer scored inside to give the Saints a 10-8 lead and three free throws pushed the Saints even further ahead. Hillyer nailed a jumper for a 15-8 cushion.

In the second quarter, Missouri S&T cut its gap to 20-17 before Sherwood took over. She splashed in four 3-pointers in a three-minute span for a 31-21 lead. The Lady Miners went on an 8-0 run before Sherwood scored late to give Maryville a 33-29 lead at halftime.

The Saints scored the first five points of the third quarter to rebuild a 38-29 advantage. Missouri S&T made a charge and closed to 39-37 before Sherwood scored five straight points to steady the Saints. Maryville settled for a 57-50 lead after three.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Miners got as close as 63-58 at the 6:40 mark but
Alex Wolf scored on an offensive rebound. Sherwood drained another triple for a 68-58 lead, and the Saints hit three free throws to grab their biggest lead of the night 71-58 and eased to the road win.

Sherwood hit 6-of-7 from beyond the arc and 9-of-12 shots from the field. Hillyer finished with 21 points and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds. Wolf also claimed eight boards to help the Saints grab 20 offensive rebounds. Â Jamy Douvier led the Miners (2-3, 0-1 GLVC) with 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Saints improve to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the league. Maryville is back in action Saturday as it hosts Drury at 1 p.m. in the conference home opener.
