Using a crucial 6-0 run in the decisive fifth set, the Maryville volleyball team recorded a 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference road victory Saturday at Bellarmine. Keying the victory were Maddie Timmermann's 15 kills and 10 blocks, and Ali Lampen's 46 digs. Set scores were 20-25, 25-22, 25-17, 20-25, 15-9. The five-set win was the first for the Saints since Sept. 11, this season.
The final set was tied at 3-3 before the Saints took control with the big run. A Bellarmine error started the run, and Timmermann followed with consecutive kills. Zoe Zeiter and Timmermann had a block to force a BU timeout. Timmermann tacked on a solo block, and an error by the Knights built a 9-3 lead for the Saints. Bellarmine finally scored to end the Maryville run before the Saints tallied two straight points. The Saints closed out the match on a Hana Michael kill.
Timmermann's 10 blocks are the most since the Saints moved to the GLVC. She also recorded a .394 hitting percentage en route to her 15 kills. Ashley Selman added 13 kills and five blocks, while Michael finished with 10 kills and 17 digs. Taryn Trubich recorded 45 assists, 15 digs and five kills. Lampen's 46 digs are tied for the second-highest total in program history and the most in a league match in school annals. The Saints finished with 118 digs as a team, the highest total in a GLVC contest.
The Saints up their mark to 12-16 overall, 4-11 in the GLVC. Bellarmine falls to 10-19 overall, 2-13 in the conference. Maryville is back on the court Tuesday, Nov. 10, as it hosts city-rival University of Missouri-St. Louis.
