Saints Edge Trevecca Nazarene 66-64 for Fourth Straight Win

Max Mischkulnig made one free throw with 46 seconds left in the game to break a 63-63 tie and Maryville held on for a 66-64 victory over Trevecca Nazarene in the final game of the Maryville Classic. The win is the fourth straight for the Saints who even their record at 6-6 heading into the New Year.
 
In a game that featured 12 ties and 13 lead changes, the Saints were down three after the Trojans scored a basket with 2:16 left to play. Damyan Stoyanov was fouled and hit two free throws to bring the Saints to 63-62. Grant Sims tied the game with 1:07 to play before Mischkulnig put the Saints ahead 64-63. The Saints defense forced a traveling call with 20 ticks left, and Marvin Grant-Clark made one at the line for a 65-63 edge. Jalen Palm made one free throw with 3.7 seconds to play to pull the Trojans to 65-64. Sims went to the line with 3.1 remaining in the game and hit one more at the stripe for a 66-64 advantage. Trevecca Nazarene had a desperation heave at the buzzer that misfired as the Saints escaped with the win.
 
Karson King recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Saints. Grant Sims led the Saints with 16 points, while Forrester Sims added 15 points and six rebounds. Matt Gamberoni topped the Trojans (4-8) with 21 points, while Byron Sanford had an outstanding all-around game with 12 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. The Saints hit half of their shots from the field (21-of-42) and have shot at least 50 percent from the field in five straight games.
 
The Saints are next in action Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, when they host Arkansas-Monticello for a 3 p.m. game.
