Alex Hillyer recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to help the Maryville women's basketball team down Sonoma State 71-56 and sweep a two-game swing through the Bay Area over the weekend.

Sonoma State scored the first four points of the game before an
Ali Ringering jumper started a 9-0 Saints run. Hillyer scored on two straight layups, before Ringering's 3-pointer gave the Saints a 9-4 advantage.
Alex Wolf and Hillyer scored to close the first quarter as Maryville went up 16-9.

Hillyer and Ringering connected for the first double-digit lead in the game. A hoop by
Madeline Hartke and one free throw by
Ellen Foster gave the Saints their biggest lead in the second at 29-15.

In the third quarter, Sonoma State cut the deficit to 42-33 with six minutes left before the Saints answered with a 9-0 run. Ringering nailed a triple, and Hillyer added one free throw. After a Hillyer bucket,
Stephanie Sherwood drained a 3-pointer to give the Saints a 51-33 advantage. Back-to-back buckets by Wolf and Hartke ended the third with the Saints up 20.

Two free throws by
Carly Frala, and a layup by Wolf gave the Saints a 62-38 advantage as Maryville cruised to its second straight win.

Wolf was second on the team with 14 points, while Ringering chipped in 12 points. Foster added 11 points, four assists and three steals. Taylor Acosta topped Sonoma State (5-7) with 15 points.

The Saints improve to 7-3 on the season. Maryville is not in action again until returning to Great Lakes Valley Conference action, Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at the University of Indianapolis.
