Freshman Ali Ringering scored a season-high 18 points as the Maryville women's basketball team closed out the regular season by holding off a charge from the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a 67-62 road victory. The Saints earned the No. 10 seed for the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and play at No. 7 seed William Jewell Sunday at 1 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.

The Saints jumped out of the gate by scoring the first nine points of the game. Ringering scored two straight buckets, and Shelby Miller drained a 3-pointer. Jade Rogers powered up for a layup as the Saints assumed a 9-0 lead. Maryville's defense kept the Tritons off the board for more than four minutes.

Carly Frala scored inside to push the Saints up 15-5 for their first double-digit lead of the night. The Tritons slowly rallied and trimmed the deficit to one before Miller drilled a 3-pointer. The Saints were still leading 25-21 before closing the half on a 16-3 burst. Ringering ignited the burst with a 3-point play, and Rogers followed with a layup. Maryville still led 32-24 and hit three consecutive 3-pointers to close the half. Alex Hillyer started the burst from deep, and Alex Wolf added a trey. Just prior to the halftime buzzer, Ringering found the range from deep for a 41-24 lead.

Rogers hit one free throw as the Saints took their largest lead of the game at 42-24. However, the Tritons crawled back into the game as the Saints offense stalled. UMSL cut the gap to seven before a Hillyer bucket gave the Saints a 48-39 lead at the 13-minute mark. The Tritons tallied eight of the next nine points before Hillyer's layup kept Maryville up 51-47. Two free throws by Alissa Oney provided a 53-50 gap with 8:12 to pay. However, UMSL took its first leaf of the game 54-53 with 5:49 to play.

Rita Flynn hit one free throw, and Roger's layup as good for a 56-54 advantage. UMSL hit back-to-back buckets for its final lead at 58-56. Hiller tied the game, and Frala knocked down two free throws for a 60-58 Maryville margin. In the final minute, Hillyer made one free throw as the Saints took a 63-60 lead. UMSL scored to pull within one point but the Saints defense made a stand. Ringering sank two free throws with five seconds left for a 65-62 lead. Wolf came up with a steal, and Ringering iced the contest with two more at the free-throw line.

Ringering paced the Saints (14-13 overall, 8-10 GLVC) with a season-high 18 points and hit 6-of-10 from the field. Hillyer finished with 13 points, and Rogers added 12 points. Amber Daly and Tierra Snow topped the Tritons with 14 points apiece.
