The Maryville baseball team broke out with eight runs but No 10 Alabama-Huntsville proved worthy of its national ranking and outscored the Saints 20-8 in the finale of the three-game series.

The Chargers put up a crooked number in the bottom of the first before the Saints answered with two runs in the top of the second. Tyler Omlid pushed a bunt single before Kaleb Depew followed with a single to right. Both runners moved up a base on a grounder. Daniel Barnett launched a single to left to bring home both Omlid and Depew to get the Saints on the scoreboard.

UAH scored in three of the next four innings to stretch its advantage. The Saints answered with three in the sixth. Dalton Schumer singled and moved into scoring position on a UAH error. Barnett and Nate Steffler followed and both drew walks to load the bases. Sean Murphy was the third straight Saint to work a walk and drove in a run. Maryville added two more unearned runs as it took advantage to two consecutive errors by the Chargers.

The Saints tacked on a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth innings but the Chargers pulled away to sweep the series. The Saints recorded 11 hits on the day and had nine different players pick up at least one hit.

Maryville is next in action Friday as it kicks off a three-game series at Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tenn.
