The Maryville baseball team pushed across two runs in the top of the eighth and held on in the ninth to post a 4-3 victory at McKendree in a non-conference game on a cool afternoon in Lebanon, Ill.

The Saints scored two runs in the top of the second to grab the early lead.
Kaleb Depew singled and stole second to reach scoring position.
Mitch Carriger lashed a single to center to drive in the first run of the game.Â
Evan Reister put down a sac bunt that moved Carriger to third who scored on
Garrett Taylor's infield grounder for a 2-0 edge.

The Bearcats scored solo runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game.
Mike Wilkinson walked and reached second on Depew's single. The pair moved up a base on a wild pitch, and Reister's RBI single put the Saints back up 3-2. Depew later scored on a balk for a 4-2 advantage.

McKendree took advantage of a Saints defensive miscue to score an unearned run and trim the deficit to one. The Bearcats put two runners aboard but
Brandon Downey got the final out of the game to preserve the one-run win for the Saints.

Justin Laffleur pitched four innings, surrendered just three hits and recorded four strikeouts, while
Julian Langford threw three innings. Maryville improves to 8-9 overall, while the Bearcats are now 1-11. The Saints are next in action Friday at 6 p.m. when they begin a four-game series at Weber Field as Illinois Springfield comes to town.
