The Maryville women's basketball team had its remarkable streak of reaching the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship game in three straight years come to an end as No. 2 ranked Lewis downed the Saints 78-63 in the quarterfinals Friday at Family Arena. The Saints were looking to become the first team since Northern Kentucky from 1999-2002 to go to four straight GLVC title games.

The Flyers led 21-14 before the Saints embarked on a 10-2 outburst to surge into the lead. Jade Rogers had a three-point play to start the run, and Ali Ringering drilled a 3-pointer. After a Lewis layup, Shelby Miller drove to the hoop for a bucket, and Alissa Oney sank two free throws to push the Saints ahead 24-23 at the 7:43 mark.

Lewis edged to a 29-28 lead but the Saints reeled off eight consecutive points to surge ahead. Miller swished two free throws, and Rita Flynn tacked on two more from the stripe. After a Carly Frala jumper, Flynn converted a hoop as the Saints surged ahead 36-29 with 3:02 left before halftime. Lewis answered with nine straight points but an Alex Hillyer layup just before the buzzer gave the Saints a 38-37 lead.

A Frala triple from the corner built the Saints a 41-37 lead but the game went back and forth after that with six lead changes and four ties. Rogers make one free throw for a 51-49 lead before the Flyers used a crucial 11-0 run over a 2:33 span to turn a narrow the Saints lead into a 60-51 margin for Lewis. Ringering nailed a 3-pointer to end the Lewis burst and pull the Saints back to 60-54 with just under six minutes to play. The Flyers made seven straight shots as they tacked on another 11-2 run and slowly pulled away for the victory. The Flyers improved to 28-1 on the season. Mariyah Brawner-Henley topped Lewis with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Miller led the Saints with 12 points and five assists. Frala and Hillyer added 10 points apiece, while Flynn grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. The Saints close out their season with a 15-14 slate.
