The Maryville baseball team jumped out to a big lead and held off a late charge by McKendree to win a 12-8 nonconference contest at Weber Field Tuesday afternoon.
Dalton Schumer went 4-for-4 with three RBIs as the Saints amassed 18 hits on the day to record their third straight victory.

The Saints started quickly by scoring in their first three at-bats of the game. In the first,
Andrew Naegeli reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and took third on an error.
Mike Wilkinson had an RBI single and took second on the throw into the infield.
Mitch Carriger followed with another run-scoring single as the Saints built a 2-0 lead. In the second inning,
Troy Payton had a bunt single that scored a run, and Naegeli doubled home Payton and Schumer for a 5-0 edge. With the bases loaded, Schumer notched an RBI single to drive in Wilkinson for a 6-0 advantage after three innings.

The Bearcats did not score over the first four innings but broke through for two runs in the fifth. The Saints answered with four runs in the fifth. Carriger doubled and
Evan Reister worked a walk. Schumer drove in one run with a single, and Danny Barnett's double scored two more tallies as the Saints surged to a 10-2 cushion. Kyle Jackson hit a 3-run homer for McKendree as the Bearcats closed to 10-5 in the sixth inning.

The Saints scored two insurance runs in the sixth. Ridings and Wilkinson laced back-to-back doubles, and Schumer later singled Wilkinson home for a 12-5 lead. McKendree made one last push when Jackson hit a double that cleared the bases and gave the Bearcats' DH six RBIs on the day. However, the Saints kept the visitors off the board over the final two innings to complete the win.
Tyler Omlid picked up the victory on the mound for the Saints as he gave up just three hits.

The Saints improve to 17-25 overall, while the Bearcats are now 9-30 on the season. Maryville hosts Quincy in the final home stand of the season with the first game starting Friday, April 24, at 6 p.m.
