The Maryville volleyball team posted two thrilling five-set victories on day one of a tournament hosted by Lewis University Friday in Romeoville, Ill., Friday morning. The Saints beat Malone 17-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12 and edged Minnesota State-Mankato 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10.

Against Malone,
Zoe Zeiter finished with 13 kills, while
Maddie Timmermann had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Ali Lampen led five Saints in double figures with 18 digs, while
Hana Michael recorded 17 digs.
Taryn Trubich dished out 45 assists. Up 2-1 in the fifth set, the Saints scored three straight points, bookended by kills from Zeiter and Trubich. Maryville used another 4-0 to take an 11-4 lead and eased to the victory.

The Saints held off Minnesota State-Mankato by pulling away late in the final set. The defeat was the first on the season for the Mavericks, who fell to 4-1. In the final set, Maryville held MSU to just a -.050 hitting percentage. The Saints led 5-4 before a kill by
Laura Welling started a 5-0 run. Trubich served up an ace, and MSU hurt itself with two straight errors as the Saints won another match that went the distance. Zeiter, Ashley Selman and Welling paced the Saints with 10 kills apiece. Lampen led the defensive efforts with 16 digs.

The Saints even their record at 3-3 and play two more matches Saturday.
