Two Early Goals by No. 20 Quincy Sink Saints

No. 20 ranked Quincy used two early goals to spoil the home debut of new Maryville head coach Sean Hughes as the Hawks settled for a 3-0 decision over the Saints.

David Geerling headed in a ball after a long cross to give Quincy the only score it would need in the fourth minute. In the fifth minute of action, Kyle Fraser found the back of the net from near the top of the box as the Hawks doubled their lead. The Saints had a few chances as the game settled down and reached halftime with the 2-0 scoreline.

Maryville nearly pulled one score back early in the second half when Nate Alonzo curled a shot toward the QU net but Nate Griffin collected the ball to deny the Saints. Less than two minutes later, Quincy closed out the scoring when Taylor Reis' hard shot found the upper right corner in the 52nd minute. Zach Klipsch had a shot in the final minutes but Griffin made the save to preserve the game for QU.

The Saints slip to 2-2 overall, 0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Hawks improve to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in the league. Maryville is next in action Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they make the short trip to St. Charles, Mo., to face Lindenwood
