Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | St. Charles, Mo.

Saints Lose 1-0 at Lindenwood, Second Straight to Ranked Opponent

Going against its second straight ranked opponent, the Maryville men's soccer team was shaded 1-0 by a Lindenwood goal in the 65th minute of action. In consecutive games, the Saints faced Quincy and the Lions.

The Lions carried the early play but Saints keeper Christian Kjaersgaard made two saves to keep the game scoreless. In the 27th minute, Marco Chavez put Maryville's first shot on goal but his effort was turned aside. There was still no score in the final minute of the first half before Kjaersgaard had to make another sparkling save as the game moved to halftime tied at 0-0.

Kjaersgaard made two more saves to keep Lindenwood at bay before the Lions finally broke through in the 65th minute on Alfredo Paez's goal. Maryville looked to tie the game, and Ryan Schlick almost did so in the 87th minute. His shot was turned away, and later, Kevin Doherty had a shot blocked by the LU defense. Lindenwood held on for the 1-0 decision.

The Saints slip to 2-3 on the season, while the No. 20 ranked Lions stand at 3-1-1. Maryville returns to the pitch Friday when it hosts Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference.
