In the first game of new head coach
Sean Hughes' tenure, the Maryville men's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over the University of Mary in a contest played in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Marauders struck first with a score in the 14th minute of play. The Saints pressed forward and looked to draw back level.
Nate Alonzo broke through for Maryville as the Saints forged a 1-1 tie in the 35th minute.

The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 through halftime before the Saints started strongly in the second half.
Nico Andrade fed
Pontus Gitselov for the game-winning goal in the 50th minute. The Saints held the 2-1 margin as goalie Christian Kjaersgaard came up with 11 saves, including eight in the second half. He turned aside two saves in the final five minutes to give Hughes his first win at Maryville.

The Saints are back on the pitch Sunday as they take on designated host South Dakota Mines.
