Kevin Ptacek tallied a brace to pace the Maryville men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over South Dakota Mines Sunday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kevin Doherty picked up an assist on all three Saints scores. The Saints improved to 2-0 on the season under the direction of new head coach Sean Hughes.
Â
Ptacek put the Saints ahead in the 17th minute off an assist from Doherty. South Dakota Mines peppered the Maryville defense with 12 shots but
Christian Kjaersgaard came up with eight saves en route to his first clean sheet of the season. The Saints took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Â
Early in the second half, Ptacek gathered in a rebound and slotted home to complete his brace on the day. Later in the half, Doherty again had the helper as he fed
Nate Alonzo for Maryville's third goal and put the contest out of reach.
Â
The Saints are next in action Friday as they open Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Truman State. Maryville's home opener is Sunday as Quincy comes to town for a Noon start at the Maryville Soccer Field.
