Max Mischkulnig's 3-point play with 10.4 seconds remaining boosted the Maryville men's basketball team to a thrilling 73-72 victory over William Jewell Saturday at Moloney Arena. The Saints trailed the entire second half and were down by five with less than a minute before rallying for the win.

Darius Tomlin scored to give William Jewell a 72-67 lead with 58 seconds to play before the frantic final minute.
Forrester Sims sank a 3-pointer with 52 ticks left to pull Maryville to within two. The Cardinals had a shot in the lane roll off and Mischkulnig snared the rebound.

Damyan Stoyanov drove the left baseline and dropped a pass on the right side to Mischkulnig. He caught the ball in traffic and banked in a layup as he was getting fouled. Mischkulnig nailed the subsequent free throw which would prove to be the game winner. The Saints defense did not allow the Cardinals to get the potential game-winning shot off at the buzzer.

Stoyanov tied his career high with 18 points while grabbing a career-best nine rebounds as he narrowly missed a double-double. Mischkulnig finished with 14 points and five rebounds.
Saikou Jallow and
Forrester Sims added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Maryville committed a season-low eight turnovers. Patrick Whelan had a game-high 25 points and added six assists to lead William Jewell (7-12, 2-9).

The Saints snapped a seven-game skid and are now 8-13 overall, 2-9 in the GLVC. Maryville is next in action Thursday, Feb. 4, when Illinois Springfield comes to Moloney Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
