Illinois Springfield boxscore in PDFSt. Louis - The Maryville men's basketball team built a double-digit lead in the first half but a big run by Illinois Springfield rallied the visiting Prairie Stars to a 68-59 win Thursday evening in Moloney Arena.
Derek Deters had his second-highest scoring output of the season and led the Saints with 14 points. The Saints hit 12 3-pointers on the night but only made 10 baskets inside the arc.

The Saints led 3-2 before scoring eight straight points.
Forrester Sims knocked down two straight 3-pointers and
Saikou Jallow had a tip-in for an 11-2 lead at the 16:25 mark. UIS cut the lead down to five and the Saints still held an 18-13 lead. Deters nailed a corner 3-pointer, and
Max Mischkulnig scored on a layup for Maryville's biggest lead of the night at 23-13 with 9:19 left before halftime. However, the Prairie Stars scored the next 18 points to take a 31-23 advantage.
Karson King made a jumper to finally end the UIS run. The Prairie Stars settled for a 36-25 lead at halftime.

The Saints were down 48-37 and crawled back into the contest with an 8-0 burst.
Jeff Leeson scored off a Deters pass, and Deters knocked down a triple. Leeson added a deep 3-pointer to pull the Saints to 48-45 just past the midpoint of the second half. UIS steadied itself with five points until a Mischkulnig layup drew Maryville to within 53-47 with 6:51 to play. The Prairie Stars scored seven of the game's next eight points and eased to the win.

Deters sank four 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 14 points and five assists, while Leeson added 10 points off the bench. Mischkulnig grabbed seven rebounds for Maryville. Jesse Tesmer and Jamal Millison paced UIS (9-13, 3-9) with 15 points apiece.

The Saints slip to 8-14 overall, 2-10 in the league. Maryville hosts McKendree Saturday, Feb. 6, in a 3 p.m. contest.
