Led by season bests from Allison Lakin and Ashley Selman, the Maryville volleyball team recorded a five-set victory over Davis & Elkins to close the first day of action at the Mizuno Crossover Tournament in Aurora, Ill. The Saints won by scores of 25-18, 28-30, 25-21, 21-25, 15-5. The triumph was the first time Maryville won a five-set decision this season.

The Saints roared out of the gates in set five to take early control. Lakin pounded down a kill followed by a Davis & Elkins error. Selman cranked in a kill, with another Senators' error following. Lakin pounded down another kill for a 5-0 to force a Davis & Elkins timeout. The Senators finally score but another Lakin kill and D&E error pushed the Saints ahead 7-2. At 7-3, the Saints tallied five straight points to put the match away. Zoe Zeiter had a kill, and two D&E errors were around a Lakin kill. Kayla Buxton served in an ace for a 12-3 lead. Cassidy Arndt's kill ended the match for a final 15-5 scoreline.

Lakin tied her season best with 18 kills while hitting .586 to go along with four blocks. Selman finished with a season-high 16 kills, hit .412 in the contest and recorded five blocks. Michelle Escue handed out 27 assists and completed a double-double with 11 digs, while Buxton finished with 24 helpers. Maggie Murphy notched 18 digs, while Emma Basler added 14 digs. The Saints hit .247 while holding Davis & Elkins (7-13) to a .206 hitting percentage. 

The Saints (3-18) close out the Crossover Tournament Saturday as they take on Walsh at 1 p.m.
