Saints come up short 2-1 in overtime against UIndy

Indianapolis, IN – Helmut Florencia scored late in regulation to force overtime, but the Saints men's soccer team fell to the University of Indianapolis 2-1 Sunday at Key Stadium in Indianapolis.

The Greyhounds scored the first goal of the day on a Javier Steinwascher goal in the 20th minute to give UIndy a 1-0 lead. This was the first goal that the Saints surrendered since Oct. 2. UIndy outshot Maryville 6-3 in the first stanza.

Florencia scored the equalizer in the 78th minute as he headed in a cross from Sander Heieren from six yards out to knot things up at 1-1. Florencia's goal was his team leading seventh of the year. Maryville had a few chances in the later stages of the match to take the lead, but Heieren placed a shot that went wide and Chris Naunheim had a chance blocked to force the extra period.

Jake Meyer scored the game winner for the Greyhounds (7-4-3, 5-4-3 GLVC) in the 96th minute as he directed a ball that deflected off several players that just got past Saints goalkeeper Christian Kjaersgaard.

Maryville (9-6-0, 6-6-0 GLVC) returns to action Friday, Oct. 21, as the Saints travel to Quincy to take on the Quincy University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
