Indianapolis, IN – The Maryville women's soccer team fell behind in the first half and could not comeback as the University of Indianapolis defeated the Saints 2-1 Sunday at Key Stadium in Indianapolis.
The Greyhounds (6-8-0, 5-7-0 GLVC) broke onto the scoreboard first as Amanda Meyer scored in the 23
rd minute to give UIndy a 1-0 lead. Michele Govern extended the UIndy lead to 2-0 in the 38
th minute converting a Saints turnover in the 18-yard box into a goal.
Maryville battled back in the second half as
Allison Verville found the net as she headed in a throw-in from
Ashley Pogue in the 56
th minute to cut the Greyhound lead to 2-1. The Saints continued to have opportunities in the later stages of the game, but UIndy goalkeeper Emma Crenshaw made a pair of saves to insure a Greyhound victory.
Maryville (5-9-0, 4-8-0 GLVC) returns to the pitch Friday, Oct. 21, as the Saints travel to Quincy to take on the Quincy University. Game time is set for 5 p.m..
