Box Score Quincy, Ill. – The Maryville women's soccer team relied on its defense to claim a 1-0 road victory over Quincy University Friday night in Quincy, Ill.
The Hawks (6-7-2, 6-6-1 GLVC) controlled the pace of play in the first half by outshooting the Saints 9-3 and forcing freshman goalkeeper
Ali Riddle into making six first-half saves. Things turned for the Saints in the 37th minute as
Casey Gonzales took a pass from
Erin Ginsberg in the 18-yard box and found the back of the net from five yards out to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The goal was the freshman's third tally of the year and proved to be the game winner as the Saints defense came up big in the second half.
Riddle was spectacular in the net for the Saints, ending the night with a career-high 10 saves en route to her fourth shutout of the year.
Maryville (6-9-0, 5-8-0 GLVC) returns to action Sunday, Oct. 23, as the Saints take on Truman State on Senior Day at Maryville Field. Game time is set for Noon.
