Box Score Kansas City, Mo. - The Maryville volleyball team closed out its two-match road swing on the western side of the state by falling in three straight sets at Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division leader Rockhurst 25-8, 25-16, 25-14.

Makayla Campbell had the first kill of the match for the Saints, and a Rockhurst error drew Maryville to 3-2. The Hawks led 7-2 before an Allison Lakin kill ended the RU run. However, the home squad pushed its advantage to double-digits as the Saints offense could not generate an attack, and Rockhurst took the first set.

In the second, the Saints took their first lead on a block by
Ashley Selman and
Katie Verseman. Later, an RU error gave Maryville another edge. Rockhurst scored five straight points to jump ahead. Lakin had a kill to pull the Saints to within 6-4, and a finish by
Kara Wright kept Maryville within two points. The Hawks eventually built a nine-point cushion before the Saints tallied three consecutive. After a Rockhurst error,
Emma Basler and Selman teamed for a block. Another RU error got the Saints to within 22-16 but the Hawks held on for a 2-0 lead.

Set three was close and a kill by Wright deadlocked the score at 7-7. Rockhurst tallied five in a row before Lakin had a kill, followed by another by
Michelle Escue. An RU hitting error trimmed the deficit to just 12-10. Maryville was down just 13-11 but RU went on a 5-0 run to surge ahead. Selman's kill ended the run before the Hawks finished the match.

Lakin led the Saints with seven kills, while Selman recorded four blocks in the tilt. The Saints fall to 3-21 overall, 1-10 in the GLVC. The Hawks are now 19-4 overall, 10-1 in the conference. Maryville returns to the court Friday, Oct. 28, when the Saints travel to McKendree.
