St. Louis – The Maryville men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the second half only to see Truman State score in the 90
th minute to force a 2-2 draw on Senior Day at Maryville Field.
The Bulldogs (6-6-4, 4-6-3 GLVC) controlled the first stanza as Matt Yankowitz nailed a header from three yards out to give Truman State a 1-0 lead in the 32
nd minute. The Bulldogs held the Saints without a shot in the first half.
Maryville came out in the second half with renewed energy as
Pontus Gitselov scored his seventh goal of the year as he buried a pass from
Joergen Pettersen into the back of the net to tie the match up at 1-1 in the 49
th minute.
Helmut Florencia added his team-high eighth goal of the year just two minutes later as he found a rebound off the Bulldog goalkeeper and drilled it home to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage.
Truman State found the equalizer in the 90
th minute as Tyler Luebbert headed in a corner kick from Craig McLaurine to knot the game at 2-2. Both teams had great opportunities in the two overtime sessions, but neither could find the winning goal.
Maryville (9-7-1, 6-7-1 GLVC) finishes the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26, as the Saints travel to cross-town rival University of Missouri-St. Louis. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
