St. Louis – Maryville's women's soccer team fell behind early and could not mount a comeback as the University of Wisconsin – Parkside defeated the Saints 3-1 Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
The Rangers (6-4-1, 6-3-0 GLVC) struck first as Lexi Porter scored from six yards out to give UW-Parkside a 1-0 lead in the 17
th minute. The Rangers controlled the tempo early on and out shot Maryville 5-1 in the first half.
UW-Parkside extended the lead to 2-0 as Vianey Hernandez scored from five yards to give the Rangers a 2-0 advantage in the 54
th minute. The Saints rallied four minutes later as
Montana Krause found the net off a deflection to cut the Ranger lead to 2-1. The Saints continued to press as they had nine shots in the second half, but the Rangers scored an insurance goal in the 89
th minute to claim the victory.
Maryville (4-7-0, 3-6-0 GLVC) returns to the pitch this Sunday, Oct. 9, as the Saints will play host to Lewis at Maryville Field. Start time is set for noon.
