Flyers edge Maryville 3-2 in overtime

St. Louis – Lewis University scored the game-tying goal late in regulation and netted the game winner late in the first overtime period to defeat the Maryville women's soccer team 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.

The Flyers (6-6-1, 4-5-1 GLVC) put the first tally on the board as Mackenzie Fuller scored on a penalty kick in the 16th minute to give Lewis an early 1-0 lead. The Saints battled back and leveled the match on a Casey Gonzales header from five yards out in the 23rd minute. Things continued to work in the Saints favor as Erin Ginsberg scored her first goal of the year off a picture perfect pass from Rachel Wiesehan to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage in the 40th minute.

The teams played on even terms until Fuller knocked in a corner kick in the 88th minute to tie the match at 2-2. Fuller completed the hat trick for the day as she found the back of the net in the 97th minute off a pass from Angela Toritto to give the Flyers a come from behind victory.

Maryville (4-8-0, 3-7-0 GLVC) takes to the road on Friday, Oct. 14, as they head to Saint Joseph's College. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
