St. Louis – Lewis University scored the game-tying goal late in regulation and netted the game winner late in the first overtime period to defeat the Maryville women's soccer team 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.
The Flyers (6-6-1, 4-5-1 GLVC) put the first tally on the board as Mackenzie Fuller scored on a penalty kick in the 16
th minute to give Lewis an early 1-0 lead. The Saints battled back and leveled the match on a
Casey Gonzales header from five yards out in the 23
rd minute. Things continued to work in the Saints favor as
Erin Ginsberg scored her first goal of the year off a picture perfect pass from
Rachel Wiesehan to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage in the 40
th minute.
The teams played on even terms until Fuller knocked in a corner kick in the 88
th minute to tie the match at 2-2. Fuller completed the hat trick for the day as she found the back of the net in the 97
th minute off a pass from Angela Toritto to give the Flyers a come from behind victory.
Maryville (4-8-0, 3-7-0 GLVC) takes to the road on Friday, Oct. 14, as they head to Saint Joseph's College. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
