Powered by a career-high 18 kills from
Ashley Selman, the Maryville volleyball team won its regular-season home finale by defeating Southern Indiana 25-22, 25-19, 27-29, 26-24. In addition to Selman's output,
Kara Wright had 12 kills while hitting .440, and
Allison Lakin notched a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.

The Saints trailed 20-19 before mounting a rally. After a USI error,
Emma Basler served an ace for a 21-20 lead. Selman and
Zoe Zeiter sandwiched kills around a USI point for a 23-21 lead. The visitors tallied one more point before back-to-back kills by Wright handed the Saints the first set.

In the second set, the Saints were down 15-14 before scoring five consecutive points to surge ahead. Lakin's kill tied the set, and a USI error pushed the Saints ahead. Basler pounded down a kill, and
Michelle Escue picked up a kill on a USI blocking error. A block by Basler and Wright capped the run for a 19-15 Maryville margin. The Saints were still up 22-19 and scored the final three points to take a 2-0 advantage in sets. Maryville hit .406 in the set.

Set three saw wild swings as both teams made late runs. The Saints were down 22-17 before roaring back with five consecutive points to forge a 22-22 tie. USI then tallied two in a row for a 24-22 edge. Maryville responded with three straight kills by Zeiter, Wright and Lakin for a 25-24 lead and a match point. However, USI saved it and the set was still tied at 27-27. The Screaming Eagles tallied two straight points to extend the match.

The Saints scored the first six points of set four until the Screaming Eagles answered with five straight. The score was close until USI lead 12-10. The Saints reeled off five straight points to jump ahead 15-12. The Saints were up 19-14 and inched to a 24-19 lead. USI fought back and saved five match points to forge a 24-24 tie. Basler finished a play for another match point, and a USI hitting error ended the contest 26-24.

Selman's 18 kills topped her previous best of 17 kills, and she added four blocks.
Makayla Campbell notched a career-best 24 digs, while Basler added 14 digs.
Kayla Buxton dished out 27 assists, while Escue finished with 20 helpers.

The Saints improve to 4-24 overall and pick up their second Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season. The Screaming Eagles fall to 9-18 overall, 3-12 in the GLVC. Maryville is next in action Tuesday as it plays at city-rival University of Missouri-St. Louis.
