Normandy, Mo. - Maryville would once again battle back in the second game of a doubleheader to gain a weekend split with the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a 11-0 loss in game number one and then a 7-6 victory in the night cap.

In the opener on Saturday afternoon, the Tritons opened the game with a run in the first on a Tanner Hudson RBI single that scored leadoff hitter Jose Ortiz to give UMSL an early 1-0 lead over the Saints. The Tritons chased Maryville starting pitcher
Josh Bonds in the third after a Tom DeCero walk, that scored Justin Busekrus. After a Nick Ulrey RBI single, Matt Foster added a pair of runs batted in on a double down the right field line to give the Tritons a 5-0 lead.

UMSL added a run in the fifth frame, a pair of runs in the sixth, and then three insurance runs in the seventh to give the Tritons the victory Jake Renfrow improved his record to 4-1 on the season in the complete game win.
Zack Ruckman paced the Saints offense with a pair of hits in three at bats while Bonds suffered the loss and fall to 1-2 on the year.

The Saints got on track early in game two as
Louis Niemerg drove in a pair of runs on a two-out double down the left field line to give Maryville a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

The Tritons cut the Maryville lead in half as Gian Gomez drove in Foster on a fielder's choice in the third frame to trail 2-1 and then tied things up in the fourth as DeCero plated Hudson from second on an RBI single to left field to tie things up at 2-2. Maryville starting pitcher #Tyler Omlid worked out of the jam and leave a pair of Tritons on the base paths to end the top of the inning.

The Saints turned things around and regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Garrett Taylor grounded out but scored #Evan Reister to give Maryville a 3-2 advantage after four innings.

Things got interesting in the sixth frame as UMSL took advantage of a Saints error and a pair of hits to take a 4-3 lead into the home half of the inning. But the Maryville came right back and tied things up as
Garrett Taylor scored on a
Troy Payton single and then took a 5-4 lead as
Mitch Carriger scored on a Ruckman sacrifice bunt.

Maryville added some insurance in the home part of the seventh as Carriger drove in a pair of runs after the Saints loaded the bases with one out to stake claim to a 7-4 advantage.

UMSL (14-5, 2-2 GLVC) would not go away quietly as Jake Beckwith scored on a groundout and then Busekrus scored on a wild pitch to make it a 7-6 game in the ninth.
Clayton Luley would slam the door on the uprising with a strikeout to end the game and claim his second save of the year. Omlid worked six innings in the victory to improve his record to 2-2 on the season while Jackson Bond suffered his first loss of the year for UMSL and dropped to 0-1.

The Saints (11-12, 2-2) return to action this coming Wednesday evening as they will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to take on Southeast Missouri State in a 5 p.m. start.
