Kansas City, Mo. - The Maryville baseball team traveled to Kansas City to face Rockhurst in Great Lakes Valley Conference action but were on the short end of a doubleheader. The Hawks took game one 9-2 and scored late to win the second game 4-3.

The pitchers dominated the first third of the game as the game was scoreless until the Hawks pushed across single scores in the bottom of the fourth and fifth. The Saints were still down just 2-0 until Rockhurst tallied seven runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Hawks recorded six hits and took advantage of an error. The Saints finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the ninth to avoid the shutout.
Zack Ruckman doubled, and
Yoonjae Nam doubled him home for Maryville's first run. Later,
Tyler Catlett singled to center to plate Nam with the second score for the Saints.

In game two,
Mitch Carriger recorded a lead-off solo homer to hand the Saints a 1-0 edge in the top of the first. The Hawks tied it 1-1 with a score in their first at bat. Rockhurst scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single and a balk for a 3-1 led. The Saints tied the game in the top of the sixth when Ruckman and Nam opened the inning with back-to-back singles. After a
Tyler Omlid sac bunt, Catlett's sac fly scored Ruckman. Later,
Sean Murphy lashed an RBI single to center to score Nam and forge a 3-3 tie. However, the Hawks manufactured a run in the bottom of the seventh to win it. After a walk and fielder's choice, Rockhurst tallied the winning run on a wild pitch. The loss was the first on the season for Robbie Gordon who gave up just five hits to the Hawks.

The Saints are now 11-14 overall, 2-4 in the GLVC. The Hawks improve to 12-15 overall, 3-3 in the league. The teams will play a doubleheader Sunday to close the series.
