Kansas City, Mo. - The Maryville baseball team let leads slip away in both games of the series finale at Rockhurst as the Hawks posted wins by scores of 9-8 and 9-4.
In game one, the Saints jumped out to a big early lead before Rockhurst put on a furious late rally.
Mitch Carriger singled, took second on an error and reached third on a balk. He scored on
Troy Payton's sac fly. In the third,
Zack Ruckman doubled and
Yoonjae Nam singled. After Nam stole second, the duo scored on
Tyler Catlett's single for a 3-0 lead.

Rockhurst pulled one run back in the bottom of the second before the Saints got a run back on
Tyler Omlid's RBI double to score Payton. After a Catlett walk,
Sean Murphy drilled a three-run homer as the Saints grabbed a 7-1 lead. In the top of the fourth, Ruckman singled, stole second and scored on Omlid's RBI single. The Hawks pushed across four runs in the bottom of the sixth to stay close. However, in the home half of the seventh, after a walk and two singles, Brandon Mikulka hit a grand slam to win it for Rockhurst.

The Saints pushed across two runs in the top of the second to again grab the early lead in game two. Catlett walked and
Evan Reister also earned a free pass to first.
Louis Niemerg singled up the middle to score Catlett with the game's first run. Niemerg was caught stealing but Catlett took advantage and sprinted home for a 2-0 lead. The Hawks tied the game 2-2 in their next at bat before the Saints again took a lead. Zuckman reached on an error and ran all the way to third on the play. Nam cashed in the RBI chance with a single to right and a 3-2 Maryville lead. Rockhurst tallied three unearned runs in the third. The Hawks stretched their lead when Mikulka stuck again with a homer in the seventh, and RU tacked on more runs in the eighth. In the ninth, Ruckman's RBI single scored Niemerg for the final score.

The Saints drop to 11-16 overall, 2-6 in the GLVC. The Hawks up their slate to 14-15 overall, 5-3 in the league. Maryville is back in action Wednesday, April 6, as they travel to Lebanon, Ill., for a nonconference game at McKendree starting at 6 p.m.
