Evansville, IN – The Maryville Soccer team dropped its third straight match as they fell to the University of Southern Indiana 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field in Evansville.
The Screaming Eagles broke into the scoring column first as Carlie Scales scored from the top of the box in the 5
th minute to take the early 1-0 lead. The Saints started to put pressure on the Southern Indiana defense and it paid off as
Allison Verville took advantage of a Screaming Eagle penalty in the box and drilled the penalty shot into the back of net to knot things up at 1-1 in the 27
th minute.
Southern Indiana (4-1-0, 1-1 GLVC) regained the lead in the 42
nd minute as Ryley Hancock scored from just inside the 18-yard box to give the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime. The Screaming Eagles added an insurance goal in the 90
th minute as Gabriella Korte hit a shot from the left wing to seal the victory.
Verville and Ashley Pouge each had three shots on the day as the Saints out-shot Southern Indiana 15-12 with seven of those being on goal.
Maryville (1-3-0, 0-2 GLVC) returns home on Friday, September 16 as the Saints will take on McKendree University in a 5 p.m. start.
