The Maryville volleyball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference by storming to a 3-0 sweep of Saint Joseph's College (25-16, 25-21, 25-14). The Saints hit .412 as a team, their second-highest hitting percentage in a match in program history.

In set one, the Saints were trailing 13-12 before SJC committed a service error.
Kara Wright then served up nine straight points as Maryville reeled off 10 straight points.
Allison Lakin's kill pushed the Saints ahead 22-13, and the Saints cruised to the win in the opening set.

The Saints were up 6-5 in set two before Lakin smashed in a kill to start a 4-0 run.
Cassidy Arndt had a kill for a 10-6 edge. The Pumas slowly crawled back into the contest and tied matters at 17-17.
Zoe Zeiter and
Katie Verseman had back-to-back kills for a 20-18 lead. Later, another Verseman hill and a SJC error pushed the Saints to set point, and they won it on a Lakin solo block.

Maryville was up 4-3 before a Lakin kill sparked a 6-0 run for a 10-3 advantage. The Pumas got as close as six points before the Saints scored three straight points to build a double-digit lead at 22-12. At match point, the combo of Verseman, Selman and Lakin teamed up for a triple-block to end the contest in emphatic fashion.

Ashley Selman paced the Saints with 12 kills, did not commit an error, and hit a sizzling .667 to go along with five blocks. Lakin finished with 11 kills on a .364 hitting percentage. Wright recorded a .462 mark and added seven kills.
Makayla Campbell led the defensive efforts with 10 digs.
Michelle Escue handed out 19 assists, while
Kayla Buxton added 14 helpers.

The Saints improve to 2-7 on the year and are 1-0 in the GLVC. The Pumas dip to 2-7 overall, 0-1 in the league.
