St. Louis – The Maryville women's soccer team scored mid-way through the second half and held on to claim a 1-0 win over William Jewell Friday evening at Maryville Field.
The first half saw both teams take turns in putting pressure on each other, especially in the midfield area. The Saints outshot William Jewell 4-1 in the half with two of those shots being on frame.
The second half started in the same fashion until
Kaley Ruff headed in her first goal of the year from six yards out to grab a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute.
Montana Krause earned the assist on a perfect corner kick into the 18-yard box.
The Saints defense limited William Jewell (1-4-2, 1-3-1 GLVC) to only a pair of shots on the evening, with Maryville goalkeeper
Ali Riddle earning her second consecutive shut-out on the year.
Maryville (3-4, 2-3 GLVC) returns to Maryville Field on Sunday, Sept. 25, as the Saints take on Rockhurst. Start time is set for noon.
