Maryville Christens New Turf with a 2-0 win over Concordia

St. Louis – The Maryville Saints Women's soccer team opened the season on the new field turf at Maryville Field with a convincing 2-0 win over Concordia University out of St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday afternoon.
 
Both teams played a controlled first half in which the Golden Bears out-shot the Saints 3-1 as neither team could find the back of the net. The Saints turned up the pressure at the start of the second half and it paid off as Allison Verville scored her first goal of the season with a 20-yard strike that found the top left corner of the goal off a free kick to give Maryville a 1-0 advantage with just over 31 minutes left on the second half.
 
The Saints continued to attack and extended their lead to 2-0 on a Rachel Wiesehan header from two yards out. The play that started with a Montana Krause corner kick that found the head of Kaley Ruff in the middle of the box. Ruff send it to Wiesehan, who scored her first goal of the season.
 
Madison Buelow earned her first win of the season after entering the game in the second half. She only faced three shots while Jordyn Clark suffered the loss for the Golden Bears (0-2-0).
 
Maryville (1-0-0) returns to the pitch tomorrow afternoon as it plays host to Lindenwood starting at 5 p.m. at Maryville Field.
